Chronic shoreline erosion is endangering public park improvements, coastal access, and adjacent County fairground facilities. NCI evaluated the historical background of the erosion, forecast short term and long term recession scenarios, and formulated a range of solutions. Working in conjunction with the City, State, and Resource Agencies staff, NCI prepared a unique plan of long range shoreline erosion management consisting of re-location of improvements further landward, restoration of the degraded beach segment, and an innovative maintenance plan to import sediments from river sources impounded over the years by upstream dams. Enhancement of public access opportunities were also included within the master plan.
